The 2011/12 school year was very active for the Student Support & Referral Team (SSRT).   Five different programs were presented to the community this year dealing with such topics as: the teen brain, distracted and drunk driving, veterans’ issues, eating disorders and problem gambling.  We also expanded our network of resources through collaborations with the Montgomery County Teen Parent Task Force, the Montgomery County Vet Center, The Renfrew Center, the Montgomery County Department of Drug and Alcohol and The Council on Compulsive Gambling of PA.

In addition to the activities noted above, SSRT continued to assist students referred by various sources.  This assistance was in the form of counseling sessions, referrals to community agencies and college resources and providing information appropriate to the issue.  Also, veterans now have access to a counselor at the West Campus and an outreach person at the Central Campus.  Since the program began in 2009, over 300 referrals have been made to SSRT.

From its beginning, SSRT has maintained a goal of keeping current with student needs and providing educational programs.  In the upcoming 2012/13 school year, our plan is to provide programs concerned with suicide, anger mangement, substance abuse and sexual assault.  We also hope to provide a series of support groups in each semester.

SSRT does not close down for the summer.  We are still available to help students deal with their issues.  You can contact SSRT by using our confidential email or come to the Student Success Center at either campus and ask to see someone.
